Northside honors first BEE Award winners

Northside Hospital recently launched the BEE Awards as a way of recognizing the exceptional work of staff members.

The awards — which stand for Being Extraordinary Every day — are given to staff members outside the nursing field who personify Northside’s goal to provide excellence in the patient experience. The award echoes the DAISY Award because every DAISY needs a BEE.

Recipients of the BEE Award demonstrate the five PETAL principles: professionalism, empathy, teamwork, accountability and leadership. Staff members may be nominated by patients, families and colleagues.

Ryan Aderhold, patient care technician, Northside Hospital Cherokee

What they’re saying: “Ryan gave me the strength and courage to fight through my excruciating pain so that the wound-vac (vacuum-assisted closure) doctors could complete their job. … Ryan held my hand and offered comfort and compassion and reassured me that I was going to be OK. He dried the painful tears that I cried.”

Leode Laube, 5 South, Northside Hospital Gwinnett

What they’re saying: “I can still see her standing there now, a true angel. She understood there was nothing she could say. It was her presence and heart. It was anything she said. It was her calming presence. She saw that I was upset and held my hand and was just with me. I wasn’t alone. She was my angel and I know Jesus sent her there in that moment to be with me and comfort me.”

Dominique Maharath, physical therapist, Northside Hospital Forsyth

What they’re saying: “I have had the privilege of working with him through two rounds of physical therapy for shoulder replacement and I can confidently say that his skill, patience and professionalism have made a significant difference in my recovery. … His deep knowledge of physical therapy and understanding of how to adapt exercises to my specific needs have played a crucial role in my progress.”

Savitha Narayanaswamy, PCT, Northside Forsyth

What they’re saying: “She has the most amazing bedside manner, and she does everything that is asked of her and then some. She does all of this with a smile on her face and is always asking the nurses what more she can do to help. … Savitha deserves to be recognized for the compassion, caring, kindness and love that she shows all of our patients who are going through a tough and trying time.”

Lindsay Platt, physical therapist, Northside Forsyth

What they’re saying: “I want to recognize her for her compassion, empathy and drive to help a patient that others may have given up on. … Every day for the last week of this gentleman’s life, Lindsay made his care a priority, devising treatments to help him as best she could under the circumstances.”

Janice Clark Tyndale, PCT, Northside Forsyth

What they’re saying: “Janice truly went above and beyond to make sure I was not only as comfortable as I could be but also poured into me as well. I was only supposed to be in the hospital overnight for my hip replacement and my stay ended up being almost one week long. Throughout my stay, Janice would encourage me to keep trying my hardest with everything. … Janice would be aware of how I was feeling and tell me it’s OK to be where I am and that I wouldn’t be there for long and would remind me of my progress.”

Innocent Ugochukwu, Progressive Care Unit, Northside Cherokee

What they’re saying: “We were absolutely blessed to have Innocent as my dad’s tech. He has the perfect attitude for this type of work — upbeat and smiling. Even on the hardest of days, he could get a smile out of my dad. And he has shown incredible compassion for both of us. He was there for whatever we needed and I cannot thank him enough.”
