Northside Hospital recognizes employees who show extraordinary care to patients with the DAISY and BEE awards each month.
Nurses are recognized with the DAISY Award for showing above-and-beyond care to patients. Patients and their families, along with the nurses’ co-workers, have the chance to recognize these nurses for care that makes a difference.
BEE Awards — which stand for Being Extraordinary Every day — are given to staff members outside the nursing field who personify Northside’s goal to provide excellence in the patient experience. The award echoes the DAISY Award because every DAISY needs a BEE.
Meet recent winners of the DAISY Award at Northside:
Reed Daugette, R.N., ICU, Northside Hospital Cherokee
What they’re saying: “What distinguishes Reed is her profound commitment to treating my son with dignity and humanity, even while he remains in a coma. … What has touched me most deeply is that Reed has extended her care to our entire family. She regularly checks on my emotional well-being, asking if I need anything and creating a space for my questions and concerns.”
Kelly Ann Govan, R.N., Northside Hospital Forsyth
What they’re saying: “My 86-year-old mother and I were leaving the hospital after a doctor’s visit. My mother fell in the parking lot as we headed to our car. I bend down to pick up my mother, scared to turn her over for fear of what I would see, and boom! There was Kelly. She saw my mom fall. She jumped out of her car and ran over. … I will never forget how wonderful it was to have someone so caring with me. She made a bad situation so much better.”
Aidan Jagnandan, R.N., Special Care Nursery, Northside Hospital Atlanta
What they’re saying: “Any words I write here today are not enough words to describe how much our family loves Aidan. … Aidan loves his patients and their family with his entire heart. You can tell that when he is working with the babies, he is focused on the babies. He is a nurse that takes care of not only his patients but their families.”
Myohee Park, R.N., ICU, Northside Hospital Duluth
What they’re saying: “She went above and beyond to ensure a patient was able to obtain his Lovenox prescription upon discharge. Understanding the urgency of this medication, she took it upon herself to call multiple pharmacies, navigating availability issues and insurance constraints until she found a location where the patient could pick up his prescription without delay. … As a physician, I deeply appreciated her commitment to ensuring the patient’s continuity of care.”
Samantha Sanchez, BSN, R.N., Labor and Delivery, Northside Hospital Gwinnett
What they’re saying: “I’ve been anxious throughout my entire pregnancy and became even more so when I found out we would need to schedule an induction. We were admitted late one night and this nurse was there to take over as my day nurse. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel at ease. … The entire nurse staff was just absolutely amazing, but I honestly have no idea what I would’ve done without this special nurse.”
Meet recent winners of the BEE Award at Northside:
Hope Collier, nurse extern, Northside Cherokee
What they’re saying: “From the moment she walked in and introduced herself, I felt like I was her only patient. She was so gentle and professional every time she obtained my vitals. She realized the pain I was in and helped me maneuver around the room. … She sets a great example even at that age to be so mature and professional.”
Myrna Glave, food and nutrition, Northside Duluth
What they’re saying: “After speaking with her, it was obvious she takes pride in how she runs her kitchen and the quality of food that comes out of it. Every time I speak to her, whether it be good or bad news, we always manage to leave on a good note and with lifted spirits. Her response time to any complaint should not go unnoticed and should be recognized.”
Sherri Mitchell, dietary, Northside Gwinnett
What they’re saying: “This associate was so attentive during my husband’s hospital stay. She was patient and very informative to the menu that was my husband’s and my preferences.”
- Another nomination said, “She was very nice and cheered me up every morning. One day I was crying. I lost my husband while in the hospital to cancer. She got me through that morning. Thank you for being so nice.”
Nazira Nuriyeva, pre-op and environmental services, Northside Forsyth
What they’re saying: “As a co-worker, I get to see Nazira’s professionalism every day. She is kind, thoughtful and always willing to help no matter what the task is. I have seen her empathy toward patients, fellow co-workers and family members and all the connections she makes with all of them. … She isn’t there to just do her job; she is there to brighten your day a little bit in the short amount of time you spend together.”
