Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States, with more than 18,000 new courts added last year.
Many people choose this sport as a way to stay active, and that includes Dr. Chase Dean and Dr. Charles DeCook of the Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute Total Joint Program.
"Pickleball has been such a game changer for our patients. It's allowed them to get active again," Dr. DeCook said. "I heard about pickleball initially from my patients. More and more patients were telling me they wanted to play pickleball. I had never played before. Pickleball was something I had never thought of before."
Dr. Dean said he likes that pickleball is a way to keep moving. "That's the key as we start to get older and start to get arthritis or get joint pains. Keeping moving is one of the keys to prevent that from getting worse."
